Terry Gilliam
Location: Highgate, North London
The only American member of comic team Monty Python, this Minnesota-born filmmaker moved to London in 1967. He eventually became a British citizen and now lives in a house dating back to the 15th Century. Once he constructed an extension deemed "grotesque" and "vulgar" by his neighbors. The glass mezzanine level also caused problems with the builders, who took him to court after claiming that he had not paid his £150,000 ($273,000) bill.
