In early 2007 Kimbo Slice started on his path to becoming a professional mixed martial arts fighter. Kimbo first trained at the Freestyle Fighting Academy in Miami, and then at Bas Rutten's training facility, EliteMMA, in Thousand Oaks, California. Kimbo defeated former boxing champion Ray Mercer at Cage Fury Fighting Championship 5 on June 23, 2007.
Two months after his victory over Ray Mercer, Kimbo Slice purchased this home in Coral Springs, Florida for $525,000.

After his victory over Ray Mercer, Kimbo Slice went on to win his next three pro MMA fights before losing to Seth Petruzelli at EliteXC: Heat on October 4, 2008.
In September of 2009 Kimbo Slice began starring in the Ultimate Fighting Championship's reality television series, The Ultimate Fighter: Season 10 on Spike.
