This post and beam home perched high above the Pacific in Malibu, CA is built around a rock formation, making it one of the more unique homes in an area chock-a-block with unique homes. Listed for $2.595 million, the house, in gated West Saddle Peak, features amazing ocean views, 4 acres of horse friendly land, and a guest house.
The architects responded to the challenge of building on a lot with plentiful rock formations by incorporating the rock ribs of the Santa Monica mountains into the design of the 3 bed, 3 bath, 3,641 square foot home.
A view of the rock formation inside the home, near the shower (above and below.) The wood construction materials provide an interesting contrast with the limestone.
The circular plan of the home and the extensive use of floor-to-ceiling glass allows for nearly 360 degree views of Santa Monica Bay, the Santa Monica mountains, and the surrounding canyons. The home’s proximity to Malibu Creek State Park also contributes to pristine mountain views.
The grounds also features plentiful decks and patios, a pool, hiking trails, and a landscape dotted with fruit and decorative trees.
