Location: Garrison, N.Y.
Price: $7,500,000
The Skinny: Set on a 19-acre estate in Garrison, N.Y., this American Gothic manse was commissioned by U.S. Attorney General Edwards Pierrepont and designed by one of the foremost American architects of the 19th century,Alexander Jackson Davis. Davis drafted the blueprints for some of suburban New York's most spectacular mansions, including the Jay Gould estate known as Lyndhurst, and the "tomb" of the Yale secret society Skull & Bones. His design for this $7.5M mansion includes unique archways and paned windows, and while the weathered brick makes the exterior look a bit rustic, the interiors are well-kept examples of Gilded Age luxury. An in-ground swimming pool with pool house, a three-car garage, and a barn are included in the sale, and a carriage house with four additional acres is available for $1.5M.
