Fans expect to see Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward in the pages of Sports Illustrated or ESPN The Magazine.

But the November issue of Architectural Digest includes a different side of Hines Ward; namely, his palatial home near Atlanta. The home is featured in a six-page spread in the magazines People and Places issue, which also includes a look at homes owned by Rob Lowe, Las Vegas mogul Steven Wynn and filmmaker Oliver Stone.

The 15,000-square-foot neoclassical mansion includes a living room with a double fireplace. It features a media room, billiard room, poker room and the trophy room, where Ward displays his collection of jerseys worn by Hall of Fame players and "old-timers" who mentored him.

Ward worked with architect architect David Grace and interior designer Ann Davis.

Unique features include:

• A washing machine in the closet of his master bedroom. Ward told the magazine that as someone who travels extensively, it makes sense to be able unpack his dirty laundry and toss it straight into the washer.

• A re-creation of his Steelers locker from Heinz Field. It's the repository of Ward's jerseys, cleats and helmets from his two Super Bowls.

"Before I built my dream house I spent years of clipping pictures from magazines," Ward told Architectural Digest. "I watch design shows on TV; I make mental notes wherever I go: friends' places, hotels. You can be amazed at what you pick up just by paying attention."
