A Look Inside Christina Aguilera's House
Christina Aguilera put her Beverly Hills house on the market for $13.5 million. But don't be fooled by the price tag -- there are lots of budget decorating ideas inside.
Moving right along: Christina Aguilera just finalized her divorce from husband of five years, Jordan Bratman, and now she's putting her 6 bedroom, 9 bathroom, 10,000-square-foot house on the market. The couple bought the home from Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne in 2008 for $11 million.
We can't imagine that this home will be easy to leave with its stone flooring, grand entryway (shown above), super-Christina decor and fun extras. Think: Beauty salon, gift wrapping area, guesthouse with recording studio, game room and pool with water slide and grotto spa.
While most of the home is pretty over-the-top, there are many easy decorating tips to steal. Here are our faves:
Cheap Chic Idea #1: Play with wallpaper.
You don't have to commit to wallpapering all of the walls in a room. Aguilera used a wallcovering to fill a few rectangular panels of her master bedroom, and we think it's beautiful ("no matter what they say.") You'll save money since you don't have to buy enough to cover the room, plus it helps break up a big wall that might otherwise feel like a giant block of color.
Cheap Chic Idea #2: Pay attention to vignettes.
When decorating your home, visually break a room into sections. Decide what you want to see when you first step inside. Is there an eye-catching piece of decor you can put in a corner to brighten it up? Paying attention to small details can make a home feel pulled together and finished. Case in point: Aguilera's reflective planter (above left) adds shine to a corner that might have felt stark, while a high back chair positioned below a climbing light fixture draws the eye up.
Cheap Chic Idea #3: Take a risk.
This room is full of them: The zebra, the metallic chairs -- even the dark gray curtains. But magically, it all comes together through the power of well-executed risks. "We don't really know what our capacities are until we tease them out of their usual circumstances," designer Petia Morozov told us recently. "I consider every design project an opportunity to give new shape to our daily habits, whether they're how we eat or shop or sleep or mingle."
Cheap Chic Idea #4: Mix and match dining chairs.
Think you have to go out and buy a slick new set of matching dining chairs when re-decorating? Think again. Some of the most beautifully-designed dining rooms have a set of mismatched chairs around the table. If you find a side chair that you love, but it doesn't match the rest of your chairs, try it out anyway. Different style chairs add interest, like the velvety antique chair at the head of Aguilera's table.
Cheap Chic Idea #5: You can never have enough throw pillows.
Imagine this same outdoor sectional without the pillows. Boring, right? When any chair or couch begins to feel tired, spruce it up with a gaggle of colorful throw pillows. Add a few contrasting Moroccan poufs on the floor, and your room will feel cheery -- and super comfy -- again.
Cheap Chic Idea #6: Consider a modern nursery.
You can tell that Aguilera had fun decorating her 3-year-old son Max Liron Bratman's nursery. While some of the decor is over the top (that oversize moon might scare some kids), we appreciate Aguilera's restraint when it comes to choosing a crib. The clean-lined white and wood one she selected is a modern take on the traditional heavy dark wood cribs popular today. Remember, mamas: Sometimes less is more.
Cheap Chic Ideas #7: Use your coffee table for color.
While Aguilera's kitchen's sitting area features a yellow lacquered coffee table, you can make your neutral living room pop by painting yours a fun color. Consider turquoise or poppy, pink (yes, pink!), or Yves Klein Blue.
Cheap Chic Idea #8: Choose a grand front door.
So what if you don't live in a luxe estate -- you should still think big when it comes to your front door. It's the first thing people see when they walk up to your home. Try painting your door, boost your front door's curb appeal, or just consider the impact of your door's color.

Gayle King -- Oprah's bbf -- used to live in this Greenwich, Connecticut house, but now the residence is on the market to rent. For just $24,500 a month, you can stay in this 6-bedroom, 8.5-bathroom. But that's not all you get. Along with over 10,000 square feet of house to roam, you get the over 4 acre lot it sits on. Sounds like you need a month to just explore the property!
Thanks to our friends at Realtor.com, we have a few photos to share. The Greenwich mega-house is owned by Oprah's company Overground Railroad LLC. So wait, doesn't that make Oprah... Gayle's landlord?
This Georgian-style house was built in 2000, so it's fairly new. Its New England location is far from the hustle and bustle of big-city Chicago. Just from the outside, you can tell this is a grand house -- the french front doors, the huge driveway and even bigger yard.
This kitchen is immaculate. Granite countertops, a huge island and a view to the backyard while you're cooking. We wonder what King has whipped up in this kitchen. It would certainly see a lot of use if we stayed there!
An eat-in kitchen takes full advantage of the bay windows and natural light. There's plenty of seating and plenty of room to pull up more chairs. The vaulted ceiling has several skylights which further brightens up the space.
Talk about a formal dining room. The heavy drapes, ornate mirrors and dark wood detailing create a traditional formal area. And the ornate ceiling doesn't hurt at all. With a fireplace on the far wall, we can easily see this room hosting winter holiday dinners.
Aaron Spelling's Mega Mansion still Listed for $150M
Aaron Spelling's Mega Mansion Listed for $150MCandy Spelling's 56,000-square-foot manor, listed at $150 million, just officially hit the Multiple Listing Service as the most expensive home on the market -- and not just in California, but reportedly worldwide.
The 14-bedroom, 27-bath home, located at594 S. Mapleton Drive in Holmby Hills, has been unofficially on the market (with a lot of press) since early 2009. But this week marks its MLS debut, says co-listing agentSally Forster Jones of Coldwell Banker, who has the listing with Jeff Hyland of Hilton & Hyland.
"When properties are for sale, being on the MLS lends credibility that it really is a property for sale as opposed to just speculation. It is a validation for the national or international discriminating buyer," Jones told HousingWatch.
The jump to the MLS may also mean that Spelling, wife of the late TV producer Aaron Spelling and mom to actress Tori, must be more than ready to leave the W-shaped mega-mansion -- even though the list price remains the same as it did prior to the MLS debut.
"There is really nothing like this property anywhere in the world," says Jones of the place that Spelling has called home since she and hubby built it in the early 1990s. "It is really like a piece of art. It is very, very special, in the most prime area in Los Angeles. It is for a buyer who will appreciate a unique estate." And Spelling believes that buyer is out there.
The record price for the most expensive U.S. home is debatable, based on whether you consider list price or sold price. Donald Trump sold a Palm Beach, Fla. home for $95 million to a Russian billionaire. Winemaker Patricia Kluge put her Albermarle house in Virginia on the market for $100 million. And there is the $125-million-priced Fleur de Lys in Beverly Hills.
Perhaps Spelling is hoping that the double listing will sell her home soon, so that she can quickly escape a stalker. Last week she wasgranted a restraining order against 38-year-old Diyahml Farrakhan Muhammad, whom Spelling claims has trespassed on her property at least nine times.
Turning 65 in just two weeks, Spelling may be downsizing now because she realizes a key lesson from many owners of mega-mansions: She doesn't need that much space. But apparently, she still wants a lot. She reportedly paid $47 million in July 2008 for an almost finished two-story, 17,000-square-foot condo atop a Century City residential tower, which is about the same amount of dough the Spellings spent building their manor in the early 1980s.
Now without her husband to share the massive space on about five acres, she is perhaps a bit lonely. The foyer alone, with its double-staircase, is 30-feet high, and there are three rooms in the 100-plus-room house devoted solely to gift-wrapping. (View thevirtual tour on AOL Real Estate.) There is also a two-lane bowling alley, hair salon, oak-paneled library, flower-cutting room, special dog-grooming area, billiard room and, of course, a projection room, where the family perhaps viewed reruns of some of Aaron's famous TV shows on a screen that rises up from the floor.
