Young music executive Shakir Saeed Stewart was credited with making Atlanta one of the most respected music scenes in the world. In June of 2008 Stewart was named Executive Vice President of Def Jam Recordings, replacing Jay-Z. On Sunday November 2, 2008 the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that Shakir Stewart died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at his home in Marietta, Georgia over the weekend.In early July, the distinguished 34-year-old music executive seemed to be celebrating his new lofty position at Def Jam when he purchased a seven bedroom, seven bathroom home in the Avignon subdivision of Marietta for $1,650,000.
